Ice Cream Social and Meet the Teacher | Thursday, September 11, 2025, 6:00 PM – 7:15 PM
We are excited to invite all families to our Ice Cream Social and Meet the Teacher evening, hosted by School Council. Come enjoy a sweet treat (thank you School Council) on the back compound, connect with other families, and meet your child’s teacher.
To support families with children in multiple classrooms, teachers will be offering the same short Meet the Teacher information session twice, once at 6:15 PM and again at 7:00 PM. This new format replaces the traditional Meet the Teacher School Conferences and gives families the flexibility to attend more than one classroom session if needed. In addition, teachers will be reaching out to families of students with IPPs to schedule a touch-base meeting sometime this month.
We’re thrilled to once again welcome the Calgary Public Library Book Truck, so be sure to stop by and check it out. The City of Calgary Afterschool Program coordinators will also be onsite to answer any questions about the program. We look forward to seeing you there.
Indigo Love of Reading Fundraiser
Our school was selected to participate in the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation's annual Adopt a School fundraiser! Every dollar raised in-store at Indigo Signal Hill between September 5 - October 5, 2025, will go DIRECTLY to our school to help fill our shelves with new and diverse books. Thank you so much for supporting our school and for helping to inspire a love of reading in our students!
You can help by visiting the store to donate when you purchase at the cash, or you can donate online, and spread the word to your families and friends!
Stay tuned for more details about some upcoming special events related to this fundraiser!
Orange Shirt Day
We will be recognizing Orange Shirt Day on Friday, September 26, this year, as September 30 falls on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a holiday. Orange Shirt Day provides an opportunity to honor the survivors of residential schools and reflect on the lasting impacts of the residential school system on Indigenous communities. As part of this recognition, students will engage in age-appropriate learning activities that align with the Alberta Curriculum, and these lessons will be part of our ongoing commitment to reconciliation and awareness moving forward. We encourage all students and staff to wear orange on September 26 to show support and solidarity in this important journey.
Free Afterschool Program – Queensland Kids
The City of Calgary is offering a Free Children's Afterschool Program again for students in grade 2-6. They run the program at teh Queensland Community Centre on Tuesday and Thursdays, starting September 23, 2025, through May 14, 2026. Registration forms are available in the main office.
Lunchroom
All students may stay at school over the lunch break to eat their lunch and have an active living break. Once the system has been updated, you will be able to register and pay for the lunchroom program via your myCBE Account.
Please note, we are operating under the assumption that all students will be staying for lunch. If your child will be going home for lunch, please let the school know so we do not include them on our lunchroom attendance lists.
Our school is supported by Brown Bagging for Calgary Kids. This amazing program provides school lunches Monday through Thursday to students who need it. If your child was receiving lunch last year, they will automatically be included in the program starting the first day of school. If this is something that would benefit your family, please call the office to request to be included.
Students Who Go Home for Lunch
If your child goes home for lunch, they can enter the school at 12:41 at the Parking Lot Doors (Door A) along with the students who are returning from their outside lunch recess. If they return to school after that time they will need to go to the front doors and check-in at the office to ensure they are not recorded as absent.
Free Backpacks
We have several new backpacks that have been donated to the school. If your child is in need of one, please email the Mrs. Young mayoung@cbe.ab.ca to request one.
