At Haultain Memorial School we will ensure the safety of all students by following the principles of respect when working with educational technology. This will ensure that we are using digital information and technology resources in a responsible way. We use the CBE Digital Citizenship Competencies to guide us in developing effective digital literacy in our students.

In keeping with the Three Pillars of Care at Haultain Memorial School, students are taught to:

1.      Take Care of Themselves

  • I can keep my CBE account passwords and other personal information private.
  • I can tell my teacher if something on an electronic device makes me feel uncomfortable or is inappropriate.
  • I know that caring for a personally owned device is the responsibility of the owner.

2.      Take Care of Each Other

  • I can be respectful and inclusive in my words and actions.
  • I can respect the property and the creative work of others.
  • I can respect the rights of other people and ask for permission to record or post anything about them.
  • I can protect and respect the personal information of others.
  • I can use my time responsibly when using technology for learning.

3.      Take Care of This Place

  • I can maintain equipment so that it is ready to be used by others.
  • I can use technology that supports learning and do so according to my teacher’s instructions.
  • I can report any problems with technology equipment as soon as I see them.

Digital Citizenship at the CBE

Digital citizenship is about using technology and participating in digital environments. It is key to helping our students learn to use available technology responsibly in the classroom and beyond. Our school has a Digital Citizenship Plan that is updated annually, addressing how we work to build a community where we live and work together as digital citizens.

Visit the CBE website to learn more about how we support students to develop online safety skills and be good digital citizens.

Personal Mobile Devices

Student personal mobile devices are limited or restricted at all schools, unless required for health or medical needs, to support specialized learning needs, and for educational purposes. Learn more about our BYOD (bring your own device) rules.

Inappropriate or unsafe content may be blocked to provide a safe environment: some content is blocked for all users, and other content may be suitable for older students but not for younger ones. Student access to known social media platforms is blocked on school networks and school devices for all grade levels.
