Whole School Clubs
Throughout the year, students in kindergarten to Grade 6 take part in Whole School Clubs as part of their learning day. During this time, students are grouped with teachers based on their chosen interests, giving them the chance to explore new skills and passions.
Clubs are designed to connect with the curriculum while offering a wide range of engaging activities. From experimenting with art techniques in the Art Trading Cards Club, to practicing numeracy in the Board Games Club, to building coding skills in the Ozobot Club, there’s something for everyone.
This school-wide initiative helps students build connections, strengthen relationships and foster a greater sense of belonging. On club days, students are encouraged to show their school spirit by wearing their HMS t-shirt or any blue shirt.
Student Leadership Club
The Student Leadership Club is a place where young leaders learn, grow, and make a meaningful impact in our school community. Members meet once a month to plan events that build school spirit and strengthen connections among students and staff.
Our student leaders take on important roles such as planning spirit days, organizing fundraisers, creating announcements, and promoting school-wide events like the Terry Fox Run and Hats on for Mental Health. They bring forward ideas to make our school even better and help ensure everyone feels included and supported.
“Being in the Student Leadership Club means we help our school. I know we are making a difference because we help make school fun and safe. We are building a school community with positive relationships.” (Grade 4 student leadership member)
SPARK Club
Students who benefit from up-regulation to get ready for the day can attend SPARK in the mornings. They engage in 15 minutes of movement followed by 5 minutes of social emotional learning discussions during the cool down period.
Show Your Colours GSA Club
Our Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) club meets weekly during lunch. This club is a safe, caring and inclusive space for 2SLGBTQ+ students and allies to connect. The focus is on kindness and creating a welcoming place where we show respect and appreciation for the diversity found within our school community.
Buddies
Our Buddy Program is all about friendship, kindness and connection. Younger students love having an older buddy to look up to, while older students enjoy being role models and mentors. At the start of the school year, every class is paired with a buddy class, creating special friendships across grade levels. Buddies meet regularly to read together, play games and take part in fun activities that build a strong sense of community and belonging across our school.
Patrollers
Student Safety Patrols provide a valuable before and after school service to students using the intersection that crosses Queensland Drive at Queensland Circle. This program is developed, supported and coordinated between the Calgary Police Service, Alberta Motor Association and participant schools. Haultain Memorial School fully endorses this program through participation and expectations that students and families cooperate fully with the routines and regulations guiding the student volunteer patrols.
