Mental Health Week and Hats On!

Every year CMHA dedicates a week in May to raise the awareness of Mental Health. This year Mental Health Week will run May 4-8, and Hats On! for Mental Health Day will take place on May 6. Albertans are invited to wear a hat to raise awareness of the importance of good mental health. Participating schools will relax their hat rules and encourage students and teachers to build understanding by wearing hats to school. Students will also participate in a coordinated lesson on understanding mental health and the importance of removing the stigma associated with mental illnesses (ATA Advocacy).

Student Leadership Spirit Day | May the 4th Be with You

Join us for a galaxy of fun as Student Leadership celebrates May the 4th Be With You! On Monday, May 4, students are invited to wear space-themed colours, Star Wars gear, or dress like a character from a galaxy far, far away. Let’s show our school spirit and have an out-of-this-world day together!

School Bus Driver Appreciation Day – Monday, May 4

Every school day, more than 620 bus drivers safely transport around 27,000 CBE students across Calgary. These drivers are essential members of our school communities, helping students arrive at school safely, on time, and ready to learn

CBE Transportation staff will be visiting schools and bus yards to personally thank drivers for their dedication and service.

We encourage schools and families to show appreciation in their own unique way, whether through a note, a small gesture, or a simple thank-you. Your recognition helps reinforce the important role drivers play in supporting student success.

Student Leadership Bake Sale

Our Student Leaders are excited to organize a Bake Sale on Friday, May 29, 2026, as a school fundraiser supported by the Haultain Memorial Parents Association. Funds raised will help reduce or eliminate costs for families for future field trips, activities, and special experiences for students.

The bake sale will take place during the school day for students, and we will also be selling items to families during our Spring Concert Celebration of Learning on May 29 from 12:00–1:00 p.m.

We are inviting families to support this event by donating baked goods for the sale.

For student sales during the school day:

  • Please send individually wrapped items such as cookies, muffins, brownies, rice crispy treats, etc.
  • These items will be sold for $1 each.

For family sales during Celebration of Learning (12:00–1:00):

  • You are also welcome to send larger items such as cakes, loaves, pies, or larger trays of baking that can be sold to parents/guardians at a higher price.
  • If your family is able to contribute, please email Mrs. Young at mayoung@cbe.ab.ca to indicate what you plan to send so we can prepare accordingly. Please do not feel obligated, as there will be plenty of donations!

Important reminders:

  • Please avoid items containing peanuts or tree nuts.
  • All items should be packaged appropriately.
  • Please send items to school by the morning of Friday, May 29.

Thank you for supporting this leadership opportunity for our students and for helping make school experiences more accessible for all families.
