Playground Blessing

This week, we had the honor of welcoming Knowledge Keeper Hal Eagletail to bless our new playground. As a sign of respect and gratitude for his teachings, we presented him with tobacco before he began.

Hal emphasized the significance of the land and reminded us to be mindful of our space and each other. He encouraged us to be cautious, kind, and respectful while using the playground. He said our playground is the perfect place for students to release energy before returning to the classroom to be ready for learning.

His wisdom and guidance mean a great deal to us, and we are committed to honoring his teachings and the traditions they represent.

Playground Grand Opening | Hosted by School Council

School Council is hosting a Playground Grand Opening on Saturday, September 21, 2024, and everyone is invited. We plan on celebrating from 10 am to 2 pm with BBQ food, community vendors, kids' activities, and of course a new playground! We hope to see you all there.

Orange Shirt Day

Orange Shirt Day, observed on September 30th, is a day to recognize and raise awareness about the impact of residential schools on Indigenous communities in Canada. It serves as a reminder of the children who were taken from their families and the lasting effects of the residential school system. Wearing an orange shirt symbolizes the loss of culture, identity, and family experienced by many Indigenous children. As we observe this day, we encourage families to engage in conversations about reconciliation, respect, and the importance of learning from our shared history.

We invite all of our families to wear an orange shirt on Thursday, September 26th, in recognition of Orange Shirt Day. This is one meaningful way for students to honor and raise awareness about the impact of residential schools on Indigenous communities and engage in this important work.

Snack Shack is Back

We are thrilled to announce that Snack Shack will be re-opening next week and will be available every Thursday thereafter! All items will be priced at just $1.00, with a limit of two items per person. A special thank you goes out to the Grade 3/4 classes for leading this fantastic fundraising initiative. All proceeds will support the Haultain Memorial Parents’ Association, helping to fund enriching experiences for our students, including field trips, performances, equipment, and more.

Invite to Event | National Day for Truth & Reconciliation

The 4th annual City of Calgary, Calgary Board of Education, and Calgary Catholic School District ceremonial opening of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation & Orange Shirt Day will be held on Monday, Sept. 30 from 9 - 10:30 a.m. at The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland (750 9th Ave. S.E.). All CBE staff, students, families, friends, and neighbours are invited to attend to commemorate Indian residential school victims, honour survivors, and commit to Truth & ReconciliACTION.
