School Council & Parent Association | Annual General Meeting

Our HMS School Council Annual General Meeting is coming up, and we’d love for you to be part of it! Please join us in the Learning Commons on Monday, September 15 at 6:30 p.m. This important evening includes the election of our new School Council Executive, and your voice matters.

Attending is a great way to connect with other parents, stay informed about what’s happening at the school, and help shape decisions that directly affect your child’s experience. Immediately following the AGM, the Parent Association will meet to plan fundraising efforts and decide how funds will be used for projects like a field trips, school enhancements, and family events.

More information and the online meeting link (if you’d like to join virtually) are available on the School Council page of our website. We hope to see you there!

Orange Shirt Day

We will be recognizing Orange Shirt Day on Friday, September 26, this year, as September 30 falls on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a holiday. Orange Shirt Day provides an opportunity to honor the survivors of residential schools and reflect on the lasting impacts of the residential school system on Indigenous communities. As part of this recognition, students will engage in age-appropriate learning activities that align with the Alberta Curriculum, and these lessons will be part of our ongoing commitment to reconciliation and awareness moving forward. We encourage all students and staff to wear orange on September 26 to show support and solidarity in this important journey.

Free Afterschool Program – Queensland Kids

The City of Calgary is offering a Free Children's Afterschool Program again for students in grade 2-6. They run the program at teh Queensland Community Centre on Tuesday and Thursdays, starting September 23, 2025, through May 14, 2026. Registration forms are available in the main office.

Snack Shack is Back

Every Thursday at lunch, students can grab a tasty treat for just $1. All proceeds go directly toward supporting school activities, field trips, and in-school presentations. Snack Shack is proudly run by our students and sponsored by the Parents Association. Thank you for helping make these opportunities possible!

Lunchroom

All students may stay at school over the lunch break to eat their lunch and have an active living break. Once the system has been updated, you will be able to register and pay for the lunchroom program via your myCBE Account.

Please note, we are operating under the assumption that all students will be staying for lunch. If your child will be going home for lunch, please let the school know so we do not include them on our lunchroom attendance lists.

Our school is supported by Brown Bagging for Calgary Kids. This amazing program provides school lunches Monday through Thursday to students who need it. If your child was receiving lunch last year, they will automatically be included in the program starting the first day of school. If this is something that would benefit your family, please call the office to request to be included.

Students Who Go Home for Lunch

If your child goes home for lunch, they can enter the school at 12:41 at the Parking Lot Doors (Door A) along with the students who are returning from their outside lunch recess. If they return to school after that time they will need to go to the front doors and check-in at the office to ensure they are not recorded as absent.

Backpacks

We have several new backpacks that have been donated to the school. If your child is in need of one, please email the Mrs. Young mayoung@cbe.ab.ca to request one.
