Principal Update

Welcome back to a brand-new school year. We are so excited to see the halls filled with energy, laughter, and learning once again. A special welcome to our new families joining the school community for the first time, we are so glad you are here. As we begin this year together, we also want to pause and acknowledge the loss of a much-loved teacher who passed away during the summer, Ms. Brosh. While families were informed earlier, we know the impact of this loss continues to be felt by students, staff, and families. Her kindness, dedication, and care for children left a lasting mark on our school, and her absence is deeply felt. As a community, we will continue to support one another and honour her memory through the work we do each day with our students. If your child requires extra support as they navigate this loss, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the school, we are here to help.

Together, let’s make this year one of curiosity, compassion, and growth for every child.

Sincerely,

Melanie Young

Principal

Staffing Update

We would like to inform you of some short-term changes in school administration. Our Assistant Principal Mrs. Prangnell is currently away on a leave. To respect her privacy, we are unable to provide additional information.

We are very fortunate that Ms. Zapp will be once again stepping in as Acting Assistant Principal while she is away. There should be minimal disruption for your children or in the school office during this time.

First Day Information

Teachers emailed families on Wednesday, August 27 to welcome students to their class. If you did not receive this email and do not know who your child’s teacher is, please check your junk/spam folder. If it is not there, please call or pop into the office before school starts on Tuesday. Teachers and admin will be outside at 8:40 AM to welcome students before the bell rings. For students who are unsure where to go on the first day, they can ask for help from anyone wearing a bright safety vest and we will support them. You can see more information on our Back to School page.

Kindergarten Staggered Entry

On Tuesday, Kindergarten students have a staggered entry, meaning they only come to school during an assigned time (see below).

  • Group A – Last Name A-J – 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM
  • Group B – Last Name K-Z- 10:15 AM – 11:15 AM

Kindergarten Kiss ‘N Cry

Wednesday is the first regular day for kindergarten students. All students will come from 8:58 – 11:46 AM. We know that handing your precious little ones over to the care of their teacher can be emotional for some kindergarten parents. We also know that for those who are new to the school it is nice to meet the parents of their children’s classmates. Our wonderful School Council will be hosting a Kiss ‘N Cry gathering on Wednesday right after the bell at the picnic tables beside the new playground. We hope to see you there!

Outdoor School Parent Meeting

As was communicated to families in June, students in Mrs. Skogman’s and Ms. Swanson’s 5/6 classes will be attending Outdoor School at Camp Chief Hector YMCA from September 22 – 24, 2025. A mandatory parent information meeting will be held on Thursday, September 4 from 6:00–7:00 pm in the school gym, with an online option available. At least one parent from each family is asked to attend. A more detailed letter will be sent home with students on Tuesday.

Fees

Once school fees have been uploaded by the CBE, they will appear on your myCBE Account. Generally, these fees are uploaded in late September or early October. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school office.

Supplies

Students will need to bring a pair of indoor shoes, a nut free snack and a backpack to school. Students who are part of the lunch program will also need to bring a healthy lunch. All other consumable supplies (pencils, workbooks, crayons, etc.) are supplied by the school.

Lunchroom

All students may stay at school over the lunch break to eat their lunch and have an active living break. Once the system has been updated, you will be able to register and pay for the lunchroom program via your myCBE Account.

Please note, we are operating under the assumption that all students will be staying for lunch. If your child will be going home for lunch, please let the school know so we do not include them on our lunchroom attendance lists.

Our school is supported by Brown Bagging for Calgary Kids. This amazing program provides school lunches Monday through Thursday to students who need it. If your child was receiving lunch last year, they will automatically be included in the program starting the first day of school. If this is something that would benefit your family, please call the office to request to be included.
