Playground Improvement Project Fundraiser | Family Movie Night

Members of our School Council and the Parent Fundraising Association have been working tirelessly to continue the fundraising efforts for our Playground Improvement Project. As you may know, our playground is reaching the end of its functional life. Efforts are underway to fundraise to replace the structure with a new and improved playground. The latest initiative is the Haultain Memorial School Council Family Movie Night. A paper copy flyer was sent home with students earlier this week with details on how you can attend, with all proceeds going toward the Playground Improvement Project. Note, we will be putting out the blue gymnastics mats for families to sit on, however you may also wish to bring a blanket or pillow for your comfort as well.

Reminder | Good Neighbours Coffee and Community Connections Drop-In

We will be hosting a Good Neighbours Coffee and Community Connections Drop-In on October 13 at 8:25 – 9:15 AM in the gym. This will be a wonderful opportunity to visit with your neighbours and meet some new people in the community. Come and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea. We will also have an area set up with gently used children's clothes where people can take what they need and leave what they can. If you have any gently used items you would like to bring to contribute, please ensure they are clean and in good repair. We look forward to this event.

Welcome Mrs. Mitchell

Please join me in welcoming Mrs. Mitchell to the role of music teacher to Haultain Memorial School. Mrs. Mitchell has an extensive music background and experience working with students of various ages. We also wish to extend our gratitude to Mrs. Kovatch for starting our music program off with such enthusiasm, warmth and joy. The students will miss her, and we are grateful that she was able to step in to support while we filled the music role with a new teacher.

Second Annual Pumpkinella Showcase

All HMS students & families are invited to bring in a carved or decorated pumpkin on Tuesday October 31 for our Pumpkinella Showcase. This is your chance to share your creativity with our school community and have fun as a family in the process!

Design, carve or dress up a pumpkin to bring to school for display in one of the following categories: Book Characters, animals, cartoons, famous people, original creation, or sports. This is meant to be a fun event, not a scary experience. Please refrain from exhibiting excessive blood and gore or violence in your pumpkin creations. Please do not send real candles or lights!

Bring your pumpkin to the learning commons on the morning of Monday October 31 between 7:45 - 8:30am. Be sure to identify the student or family who is the artist of each pumpkin creation! The pumpkins may have a safer journey if they are brought to us by mom or dad! Please follow the direction of the parents and staff who will help you to set up your pumpkin in the 'pumpkin patch'.

Classes will have the opportunity to experience the Pumpkinella Pumpkin Patch during the day on October 31. All pumpkins will be sent home at the end of the day to be showcased on your front step in the evening. Have Fun!

Snack Shack is Back

We are excited to announce that Snack Shack will be returning this upcoming week, and on Thursdays going forward. Items will be priced at $1.00 and there is a 2-item limit. We would like to thank the Grade 4/5 classes for spearheading this fundraising project in support of the Playground Improvement Fund.

School Council

Please join us in the Learning Commons on Monday, October 16 at 6:30, for our upcoming HMS School Council Meeting. Immediately following the School Council Meeting, you can be a part of helping to plan how to raise and allocate funds for items such as a new playground, school enhancement and family events at the Parent Association Meeting.

You can find more information and a link to the meeting (if you choose to join online) on the School Council page of our website.

You can keep up to date by following the Parents of Haultain | Facebook Page.

Child & Youth Well-Being | Family & Caregiver Series 2023-24

The Calgary Board of Education invites all parents and guardians to join us in an online series focusing on child and youth well-being. These sessions will be hosted in partnership with experts from Alberta Health Services and will explore topics such as vaping, brain development, mental health, and sexual health. These sessions are offered free of charge and provide information, resources, helplines, and services to support healthy child and youth development.

CBE educators believe that parents and guardians can inspire their kids to make healthy lifestyle choices and increase protective factors – in order to do so, they need the right tools and information.

Well-being is a precondition for learning. As our understanding of student well-being continues to evolve, it is important for those that support children and youth to stay up to date on the same information so everyone can support student success.

The intention of the series is to advance student well-being by raising family and caregiver’s understanding of a variety of health-related topics.

Thank you for your time and consideration to join us. Click here to learn more: Child and Youth Well-Being: A Webinar Series for Parents and Guardians
