Remembrance Day Assembly

The grade 5/6 classes will be hosting the Remembrance Day Assembly on Thursday, November 7. This formal assembly is open to HMS families. The assembly will start at *10:20 AM (*note the change from 10:00 previously communicated), so please come in early (any time after 10:05 AM) to give yourself time to find a seat before the ceremony begins. Students and audience members will be asked to refrain from applauding to recognize the solemnity of the occasion. All students who are part of service organizations are invited to wear their uniforms on that day.

Veteran's Food Bank Drive

Help us combat hunger by sending non-perishable food items with your child as a donation to the Veteran's Food Bank this November. Collections of non-perishable food items will begin on Monday, November 4 and continue up until the day of our Remembrance Day Ceremony, Thursday, November 7.

Candy Wanted | Student Leadership Charity Drive

The Student Leadership Club has been hard at work organizing a Candy Drive for a charity called 'The Happy Birthday Project'. This is a local charity that works to provide all the supplies necessary to bring joy to the lives of children and families facing adverse circumstances through the celebration of birthdays, holidays, and other special life events.

Haultain Memorial School will be collecting candy to donate to this worthy cause. Please note that candy should not contain Halloween images or shapes and must be wrapped in original packaging. Candy donations can be brought to the office until November 6. Thank you on behalf of the Student Leadership Club!

Attendance

Regular attendance at school fosters students’ confidence in themselves as learners and enhances their role as active participants and valuable contributors in the school community.

Did you know?

  • By grade 3, students with regular attendance are more likely to read at grade level.
  • By grade 6, regular attendance is a predictor of high school completion.
  • By grade 9, regular attendance is a better predictor of graduation rates than test scores.
  • Students who attend daily are less likely to fall behind in school.
  • Concerns with school attendance may indicate other challenges in a student’s life.
  • Regular school attendance is an important life skill on the path to graduation and future employment.

Tips for improving your child’s school attendance:

  • Listen and show an interest in your child’s day.
  • Encourage your child to do well in school and praise their success.
  • Help your child maintain daily routines such as, eating breakfast, turning off electronics two hours before bedtime and going to bed early.
  • If possible try to schedule dental and medical appointments after school hours or on days off from school.
  • Send your child to school unless sick.
  • It may be a concern if your child is often sick, complains about going to school and/or struggles with school work.
  • Ask for help from the school before the problem gets too big. No problem is too small.
