November School Conferences

School Conferences are coming up soon. Conference Booking Opens on November 13 and you can sign up through your MyCBE account. School Conferences provide time for families to discuss their child’s progress and achievement in relation to the intended learning goals. This is also a time for teachers to share evidence of individual student progress and achievement. These conferences are one of the formal reporting opportunities the CBE has structured to ensure families understand their child’s achievement over the course of the reporting period. The next formal reporting opportunity will be through report cards in the new year.

Parent Association | Upcoming Fundraising Opportunity | Casino

The Haultain Memorial School Parent Association needs volunteers to support our upcoming Casino at Deerfoot Inn and Casino on December 19 and 20, 2025. This is our major fundraiser and supports many activities/programs at our school.  Please sign up with the following link: https://bit.ly/HMScasino

Central and School Fees

Central fees will be available in MyCBE accounts in the coming days. Central fees for transportation and lunch supervision will be prorated. Families will not be charged for days when services were not provided. The school supplies fee for kindergarten to Grade 6 students will remain unchanged.

The Seven Sacred Teachings at Haultain

This year, our school community will be learning about and making connections to the Seven Sacred Teachings; Love, Respect, Courage, Honesty, Wisdom, Humility, and Truth. Each teaching guides us in building relationships rooted in kindness, understanding, and care for one another and the land. This learning connects to our Truth and Reconciliation (TRC) Commitment: Heart - To Belong, where we build and apply an understanding of Indigenous community values such as reciprocity and respect. Through classroom learning, school events, and daily actions, we will explore how these teachings are lived in relationship with Indigenous students, families, Elders, community members, and the land. Together, we are growing a stronger sense of belonging and shared responsibility within our school community.

In November, our focus is Respect. Respect teaches us to honor ourselves, others, and all living things. It reminds us that every person and part of creation has value and deserves care. At Haultain, we will be exploring what respect looks like in our classrooms, hallways, and playground through our words, our actions, and how we treat the land. By practicing respect each day, we continue to build a community where everyone feels seen, valued, and connected.

Students of the Month

Each month at Haultain, teachers will nominate Students of the Month who exemplify the Sacred Teaching we are focusing on. These students show through their words and actions what it means to live the teaching in their daily lives, whether it’s showing kindness, helping others, or caring for the land and our school community.

For November, we will celebrate students who demonstrate Respect in meaningful ways. By highlighting these role models, we hope to inspire all students to bring the teachings to life, helping our school grow as a place of belonging, respect, and care.

Reading, Re-Using, and Raising Used Book Sale

Our Student Leadership Club is hosting a Used Book Sale on November 24 and 26 during lunch hour. All books are only $1 each, and funds raised will support in-school presentations, field trips, and other special school events that enrich student learning.

This event connects to the Seven Sacred Teachings of Respect and Love. By re-using books, we show Respect for the Land and help care for our environment. By sharing stories, we show Love for learning, our community, and one another.

Money can be sent to school with students on November 24 and/or 26. If books remain, we will open again from 4:00 – 6:30 on Wednesday and Thursday to coincide with School Conferences so families can browse together.

Coffee and Community Connections

We would like to invite you to a casual Coffee and Community Connections session with our school administration. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with us, share your thoughts, ask questions, and learn more about what’s happening at our school.

Date: Friday, November 21, 2025
Time: 9:00 – 9:45 am
Location: Staff Room

Whether you have a question, an idea, or just want to catch up, we’re here and happy to talk. We hope you can swing by for a cup of coffee and a friendly chat. We believe that open communication is key to fostering a strong school community, and we’re excited to build those connections with you.

We hope to see you there.

Attendance

Regular attendance at school fosters students’ confidence in themselves as learners and enhances their role as active participants and valuable contributors in the school community.

Did you know?

  • By grade 3, students with regular attendance are more likely to read at grade level.
  • By grade 6, regular attendance is a predictor of high school completion.
  • By grade 9, regular attendance is a better predictor of graduation rates than test scores.
  • Students who attend daily are less likely to fall behind in school.
  • Concerns with school attendance may indicate other challenges in a student’s life.
  • Regular school attendance is an important life skill on the path to graduation and future employment.

Tips for improving your child’s school attendance:

  • Listen and show an interest in your child’s day.
  • Encourage your child to do well in school and praise their success.
  • Help your child maintain daily routines such as, eating breakfast, turning off electronics two hours before bedtime and going to bed early.
  • If possible try to schedule dental and medical appointments after school hours or on days off from school.
  • Send your child to school unless sick.
  • It may be a concern if your child is often sick, complains about going to school and/or struggles with school work.
  • Ask for help from the school before the problem gets too big. No problem is too small.
