The Big 5 for Mental Health

To build strong physical and mental health, there are various lifestyle factors that we can implement. The third of these Big 5 is Social Connection. At HMS we provide varied opportunities for students to connect with peers and adults in meaningful ways. For example, we are almost through our second round of clubs this year. This opportunity promotes cross-grade mentorship between children in kindergarten through grade 6 and allows students to get to know other staff members in our school. Learn more about social connection on The Big 5 for Mental Health page of the Mental Health Literacy website.

March School Conferences | Student Led

Our next round of School Conferences is coming up soon. Conference Booking Opens on March 13 and you can sign up through your MyCBE account. School Conferences provide time for families to discuss their child’s progress and achievement in relation to the intended learning goals.

Student Led Conferences will be 30-minute blocks with four families in each classroom. During a Student Led Conference, students will share their portfolio with their parent/guardian.  Families are encouraged to listen, ask questions and share what they notice about their child's growth and progress. Your child’s teacher will circulate around the classroom, listen, and contribute observations and reflections to the discussion. These conferences are one of the formal reporting opportunities the CBE has structured to ensure families understand their child’s achievement over the course of the reporting period. The next formal reporting opportunity will be through report cards in June.

School Council/Parent Association Meetings | March 11, 2024

Our next HMS School Council Meeting is approaching. Please join us in the Learning Commons on Monday, March 11 at 6:30. If you are a parent/guardian of a Haultain Memorial student, you are welcome and encouraged to join us. Immediately following the School Council Meeting, you can be a part of helping to plan how to raise and allocate funds for items such as a new playground, school enhancement and family events, at the Parent Association Meeting

You can find more information and a link to the meeting (if you choose to join online) on the School Council page of our website. You can keep up to date by following the Parents of Haultain | Facebook Page.

Family Literacy Night

Our Family Literacy Night was a huge success! We are thankful that so many families were able to join us to learn about the Science of Reading and ways to support children with building literacy skills. If you were unable to attend but would like to learn more, you can access the HMS Science of Reading Resource Package from the evening here or by using the QR code below.

Parent Association | Playground Committee

HMSPA is completing the final stages of fundraising for the new HMS Playground. We are so close to our final goal and are planning to build later this calendar year.

We are currently seeking any donations from local businesses and organizations to collect the final funds to build the original playground AND the highly requested disc swing set for our students. All donations $100 or greater are eligible for a tax receipt through the Parks Foundation Calgary - who have kindly granted us $30,000 towards the HMS Playground Project.

If you know of any folks, local businesses or organizations that may be interested in donating, please contact Taryn Mandrusiak at taryn.mandrusiak@gmail.com or Crystal Schatz at crystalschatz@gmail.com as we would be glad to provide further information.
