Autism Awareness Day: Embracing and Supporting the Autism Community

April 2nd marks Autism Awareness Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness, fostering understanding, and celebrating the diverse experiences of individuals with autism. Autism, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), affects millions worldwide, and every person on the spectrum has a unique way of experiencing the world.

This day is an opportunity to learn more about autism and promote acceptance. It’s about seeing individuals with autism as more than their diagnosis, recognizing their strengths, and embracing their differences. Awareness helps reduce stigma and creates more inclusive environments in schools, workplaces, and communities.

How You Can Help:

  1. Educate Yourself: Learn more about autism through resources, books, and documentaries.
  2. Support Local Organizations: Volunteer or donate to autism-focused groups in your community.
  3. Wear Blue: Show your support by wearing blue on April 2nd, the symbol of autism awareness.
  4. Spread the Word: Talk about autism with friends and family to promote inclusion and understanding.
  5. Advocate for Change: Support policies that improve access to healthcare, education, and employment for individuals with autism.

At school, students will be learning more about neurodiversity and how it shapes the experiences of individuals with autism. There will also be a variety of activities throughout the day designed to raise awareness and foster empathy. These activities will help students better understand and appreciate the differences that make us all unique.

Autism Awareness Day is about celebrating the strengths and talents of those with autism, while also promoting a society that embraces diversity. Let’s work together to create a more inclusive world where everyone can thrive.

Learn & Share | School Planning & Engagement

We know we make better decisions to support student learning when we build understanding and work together. That’s why we are asking you to share your perspectives about our school development plan, school budget and school fees. Families were invited to learn about School Planning at this week’s School Council Meeting. All families are encouraged to complete the survey whether or not they attended the engagement session.

  • The survey is open until March 24, 2025.
  • Please click here to complete the survey.
  • Watch this short video to learn about the planning work schools do to improve and support student learning.

Your input is important to us, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your perspectives.

HMS Family Math Event

Who: HMS Families

Date: Friday April 4th

Time: 11:00am – 12:00pm

On Friday April 4th we invite all our HMS families to join us for an opportunity to show off our amazing Math skills. Throughout the year, students have been focused on improving their math fluency by asking questions, demonstrating resiliency through problem-solving, and having a growth mindset. Families will first attend a short presentation, followed with Math games and activities back in the classrooms.

Although this is a non-Kindergarten day (Mrs. Wilson and Ms. Ross are not here that day), Kindergarten families are still welcome to attend the Family Math Event. There will be a self-directed center for you to participate in with your child after the presentation.

We hope you will join us for this event. If you plan on attending, please RSVP using this link so we can plan accordingly (chairs, supplies, etc.).

We hope we will see you there!

Coffee & Community Connections

Join us on April 11 for Coffee and Community Connection Time with our school administration! This is a casual, informal opportunity to meet with administrators, ask questions, and share your thoughts over a cup of coffee. It's a great chance to connect with the school community and stay informed. We look forward to seeing you there!
