Important Update: School Council & Parents Association Meetings Moved Online

Due to the ongoing labour strike, our upcoming School Council and Parents Association Meetings on Monday, March 10, 2025, will be held online instead of in-person. This change ensures we can still gather and share important information while respecting the current situation.

Join us virtually at 6:30 PM to engage in key discussions about the future of our school and stay updated on important school decisions and events. Following the School Council meeting, we will hold the Parents Association Meeting, where you can participate in planning how we raise and allocate funds for school activities like field trips, in-class presentations, school enhancements, and family events.

Meeting Details:

Whether you're a regular attendee or new to the meetings, we encourage you to participate and share your thoughts and ideas for the benefit of our school community.

School Planning - We know we make better decisions to support student learning when we build understanding and work together. That’s why we’ll be sharing information about school planning and asking you to share your perspectives at this School Council meeting. During this engagement, you will have the opportunity to:

1. Learn About:

  • School planning, which includes the school development plan, school budget and school fees
  • How the school development plan sets the overall focus and direction for a school to improve student learning outcomes
  • How the school budget provides funding to implement our school development plan
  • School fees and why they are necessary

2. Participate

  • Participate in our virtual School Council meeting on March 10 to learn more about school planning. There will be an opportunity to provide feedback at this meeting.
  • Share your perspectives through an online survey open from March 10 to March 21, 2025.

Watch this short video to learn about the planning work schools do to improve and support student learning. We’ll send you a link to the survey, our school development plan and school budget and fees information when it’s available. We will also post it on our school website.

For more information and the online meeting link, please visit our School Council page on our website.

Gymnastics

We are continuing the gymnastic unit in our physical education classes. This unit will last for 3 weeks (March 3 – March 20). Throughout this unit of study, the safety of all students is of utmost importance. During the initial days of this unit, teachers will review safety procedures and expectations while working on mats to review and develop foundational movement skills. This will be followed using larger equipment, including the Canadian Climber, with safety expectations being reviewed regularly. While participating in gymnastics we ask students to be dressed and prepared to participate.

Students have physical education every day and we ask that you help your child to be prepared in the following ways:

  • Clothing that allows freedom of movement (no special uniforms or outfits are required)
  • Please NO hoodies, skirts/dresses, or other loose clothing; baggy clothes may get caught on equipment when climbing
  • Hats & toques will be removed during gym class
  • One layer shirt for gym class, tucked-in is helpful to prevent an accident.
  • All jewelry (e.g., watches, rings, necklaces, earrings, etc.) should be removed and left in classrooms or at home. These items could get caught on equipment or cause other discomfort or injury. Students with long hair need their hair tied back while in gym class.
  • Students may wear shorts or leggings under their clothing if they wish.
  • Footwear - students will continue to wear indoor running shoes that are securely attached to the feet (first preference). Students may also participate with gymnastic slippers.

Throughout the year, teachers provide students with a variety of experiences to establish safety routines and promote cooperation and good sportsmanship. Within all our units, the students have many opportunities to develop their individual skill level, share their accomplishments and experience the satisfaction of teamwork in a safe and non-threatening atmosphere. We would like each child to review the following guidelines with their parents as it will help them better understand the importance we place on safety.

  • Students work independently or in small groups QUIETLY as noise can distract others.
  • Children do only what they are comfortable doing. Showing off or daring is not allowed.
  • Pyramid building is no longer allowed by the CBE for K-6 students.
  • Forward and backward rolls are no longer allowed by the CBE for K-6 students. Students will be taught how to do several other types of rolls.
  • Students must follow all instructions from their teacher, including the safe execution of movements. Not following instructions or behaving in ways that put others at risk may result in students not being able to join into a lesson.
  • Although some students have had private gymnastics training, there will be no aerial stunts or other moves that are not on the CBE approved list.

If you have questions about any of this information, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher.
