Happy Holidays

As we head into this joyful season, we want to extend our warmest wishes to every student, family, and staff member in our HMS community. This time of year, reminds us of the importance of connection, kindness, and belonging values that are at the heart of who we are.

Over the first half of the school year, we’ve continued our focused work on strengthening foundational literacy and numeracy skills, guided by our School Development Plan. Teachers and students alike have embraced strategic reading practices, purposeful vocabulary development, rich mathematical thinking, and a school-wide emphasis on well-being and attendance — all with the goal of supporting every learner’s growth and success.

We also honour our Truth and Reconciliation Commitment, reflecting on how we can build deeper understanding and respect for Indigenous community values such as reciprocity and respect in our relationships with students, families, Elders, and community members, and in our connection to the land.

Thank you to everyone who contributes to making Haultain Memorial a place where all students feel supported, valued, and excited to learn. We hope this holiday season brings rest, joy, and meaningful time with those you cherish. Happy Holidays and all the best for the New Year.

Staffing News

It is with mixed emotions that we are announcing Mrs. Borrelli’s retirement in the new year. You will all know her as the friendly face in the office, the Administrative Secretary who is always willing to help, no matter the size of the problem. We have witnessed her spend hours with parents and guardians helping them sort our PowerSchool glitches, School Engage issues and helping them access community supports. She is always ready with a smile, an understanding ear and of course endless band aides and icepacks! For those of us who work closely with Mrs. Borrelli in the office we can attest to her dedication and commitment to her role. We are finding it hard to imagine this place without her.

True to her spirit, she has been collaborating with Mrs. Davis who will be joining our team as our new Administrative Secretary, to ensure the transition goes smoothly. Mrs. Davis has extensive administrative experience, and we will officially welcome her with open arms on January 19, 2026. Mrs. Borrelli’s last day will be January 16, 2026. We hope you will take a moment to congratulate her on her well-deserved retirement between now and then. We know she’ll embrace retired life with her husband, but we sure will miss her.

Kindergarten Registration 2026-27

Kindergarten registration for the 2026-27 school year will begin on Monday, January 12, 2026. Children can be registered for kindergarten if they turn five years old on or before Dec. 31 of the school year they will be in kindergarten. For example, when registering for the 2026-27 school year, the child must turn five on or before Dec. 31, 2026. Families can find information on kindergarten registration on the public CBE website.

Community Safety & Respect Reminder | Outdoor Rink

We are sharing a community reminder from our local Community Association regarding the outdoor ice rinks located beside the school. With the warmer weather, the ice has become more fragile, and recent damage has created safety concerns.

Students are welcome to use the rinks when skating, but the Community Association has asked that young people refrain from walking on the ice, smashing the surface, or causing damage, especially during warmer conditions. Their security cameras have shown that the damage is being caused by young people, and they have asked for our support in sharing this message.

Respecting shared community spaces and using them responsibly helps keep everyone safe and ensures these amenities remain available for the whole community. We appreciate your support in reminding your child(ren) to make safe, respectful choices after school.

Thank you for your continued partnership.
