School Swag Interest Survey
It has been a few years since we’ve had our blue HMS t-shirts available for purchase. Because we are a small school, the HMS Parents Association is seeking to determine family interest in purchasing new HMS t-shirts and/or hoodies. Vendors typically require a minimum order, so we are asking everyone to take this short 1 minute survey to guide next steps. Your participation is appreciated. The original link to the survey had a glitch, and therefore it has been extended until January 30, 2025.
Family Literacy Week
The Calgary Board of Education will celebrate Family Literacy Week from January 26 to February 2 to raise awareness about the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family. The theme of this year's Literacy Week is Learn to Be Green – Together, emphasizing the importance of nurturing both our planet and our community. The CBE Literacy & Early Learning Team is celebrating Family Literacy Day by sharing information and activities to support literacy development at home and at school. Click on the Family Literacy Week attachment on the right sidebar to find some fun activities to participate in as a family.
Student Leadership Club/HMSPA Reverse Bottle Drive
The Student Leadership Club is teaming up with the Haultain Memorial School Parents Association (HMSPA) to run a Reverse Bottle Drive on February 10, 2025, at the school. This fun and eco-friendly event is a unique way to raise funds for our school while also helping the environment. Instead of bringing in bottles and cans to recycle at the depot, we are encouraging everyone to collect and donate their empties!
How Does It Work? It's simple! Over the next few weeks, we invite all students and families to gather up their empty bottles, cans, and other recyclable beverage containers. Rather than dropping them off at your local recycling depot, bring them to school, where we’ll collect and sort them for you. All the proceeds will go directly towards supporting school activities, field trips (including our upcoming swim program), supplementary classroom supplies, and more!
Event Details:
- Date: February 10, 8:15 – 10:15 am
- Drop-off Locations: Bring your empties (in bags or boxes) to the front of the school where we will have student leaders and volunteers ready to take them off your hands.
- Why Participate? Not only does this event help reduce waste and promote sustainability, but it also supports the programs and events that make our school a great place for our students to learn and grow. It’s an excellent opportunity for families to get involved and make a positive impact on both our community and the planet.
So, let’s make this Reverse Bottle Drive a huge success! Start collecting your bottles and cans, and let’s work together to reach our fundraising goals.
Thank you for your support!

Jump Rope for Heart
February is Heart Month, and our school is participating in Jump Rope for Heart. Students will discover fun ways to get active, practice healthy habits and learn how skipping can provide a quick, effective fitness workout. During our kickoff assembly on Monday our “Student Jump Team” will showcase their skipping skills to inspire our school to get jumping!
Skipping activities will take place during our Physical Education classes in February. We will hold our Jump Event Day on Wednesday, February 12 and we welcome families to come skip with us. (This will take place during your child’s gym time – teachers will share information closer to the date).
Students and families are invited to collect donations for the Heart & Stroke Foundation to help them advance life-saving research and provide education about heart disease and stroke prevention. Our Jump Rope for Heart fundraising campaign is open now until February 25. We have a school goal of raising $500.
