Family Literacy Day

Family Literacy Day is coming up on January 27. This annual event aims to raise awareness about reading and literacy development. There are many ways in our community and beyond, to access activities to support literacy development. We would like to invite you to celebrate with us this week by trying out some family literacy activities curated by the CBE Literacy Team (linked above). The Family Literacy Day Visual is also attached here on the sidebar and was sent as an attachment in the Family Update email sent to families. You’ll find even more great ideas linked in this visual!

School Council/Parent Association Meetings | January 22, 2024

Our next HMS School Council Meeting is approaching. Please join us in the Learning Commons on Monday, January 22 at 6:30. If you are a parent/guardian of a Haultain Memorial student, you are welcome and encouraged to join us. Immediately following the School Council Meeting, you can be a part of helping to plan how to raise and allocate funds for items such as a new playground, school enhancement and family events, at the Parent Association Meeting.

You can find more information and a link to the meeting (if you choose to join online) on the School Council page of our website. You can keep up to date by following the Parents of Haultain | Facebook Page.

Thank You | Mayor’s Annual Christmas Food Drive

The grade 5/6 classes would like to thank everyone who contributed cereal (and many other non-perishable items) to the Mayor’s Annual Food Drive. We are happy to report we raised 320 pounds of food! The students enjoyed using the cereal boxes for their STEM challenge and they felt good about contributing to our community in a positive way. Thank you for your support.

Assessment and Reporting in Kindergarten | Report Cards

The kindergarten reporting process is slightly different than in grades 1-6. Kindergarten teachers will report progress to parents / legal guardians via January and June report cards, as with the other grades, however, please note the reduced stems for the January report card as outlined below.

  • In January, progress in ELAL and Math will be communicated to parents / legal guardians via the report card.
  • In June, progress in all discipline areas will be communicated to parents / legal guardians via the report card.
