Celebrating Kindness and Inclusion: Pink Shirt Day at HMS

At Haultain Memorial School, we believe in creating a caring, respectful, and inclusive environment where every student feels valued and supported. On Wednesday, February 26, 2025, we will proudly join schools across the country in recognizing Pink Shirt Day, a special day dedicated to raising awareness about bullying and celebrating kindness, inclusion, and respect within our school community.
Pink Shirt Day began in 2007 when two high school students in Canada stood up for a fellow student who was being bullied for wearing a pink shirt. In a powerful act of solidarity, they encouraged their friends to wear pink the next day, sending a message of support and standing up against bullying. The movement has grown into a global initiative, and we are excited to be part of it.
On Wednesday we encourage all students, staff, and families to wear pink shirts to show our collective commitment to kindness and inclusion. However Pink Shirt Day isn’t just about what we wear - it’s about the actions we take to create a caring and respectful community. Throughout the week, we will engage in several activities to promote empathy and understanding, including:

  • Classroom Activities: Students will take part in discussions about bullying, empathy, and how they can contribute to a more inclusive school environment.
  • Creative Art Projects: Students will create art that expresses messages of kindness, respect, and inclusion, which will be displayed throughout the school as a reminder of our shared values.

Pink Shirt Day is an opportunity to reflect on the importance of standing up for one another and showing kindness in all our interactions. It reminds us that every small act of kindness makes a difference and that together, we can create a positive and welcoming school environment for all.

How Can You Help?

  • Wear Pink: We encourage everyone—students, staff, and families—to wear pink next week to show your support.
  • Have a Conversation at Home: Take a moment to talk with your child about the importance of kindness and standing up against bullying.

We are committed to building a community where every student feels valued, respected, and included. Let’s work together to make Pink Shirt Day a success and keep the spirit of kindness alive all year long. We look forward to seeing everyone in their pink shirts and celebrating kindness next week.

Calgary Police Service Start Smart Stay Safe Program

We are excited to announce that we are partnering with the Calgary Police Service to participate in the Start Smart Stay Safe (S4) program. This initiative aims to help students develop important safety skills and make positive choices, both inside and outside the classroom.

Through engaging lessons and activities, the Start Smart Stay Safe program will cover topics such as personal safety, recognizing and avoiding dangerous situations, and the importance of respectful relationships. A Calgary Police Service officer will work with our students, sharing their expertise and helping them understand how to stay safe in their community.

We are proud to offer this program as part of our commitment to supporting the safety and well-being of our students. The Start Smart Stay Safe program will be integrated into our curriculum, and we look forward to empowering our students with the knowledge and skills they need to make smart, safe choices.

Stay tuned for more updates as we move forward with this important program.
