Jump Rope for Heart

We wanted to take a moment to extend our heartfelt thanks to families for participating in our Jump Rope for Heart family event. Your enthusiasm and support helped make this event a success, and we are grateful for your involvement.

Our school is participating in Jump Rope for Heart to empower kids to build healthy habits for a healthy life and learn the importance of giving. Our Family Jump Event was a wonderful opportunity for our students to stay active, have fun, and learn about the importance of heart health, all while supporting the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada’s mission.

Our Jump Rope for Heart fundraising campaign will be open until February 25, 2025. We have a school goal of raising $500 and we are already halfway there. If you haven’t had a chance to donate yet, don’t worry! There is still time to contribute. Every donation, no matter the size, helps fund vital heart disease research and educational programs. Please consider making a donation if you haven’t already. Your support truly makes a difference.

Thank you again for being a part of this amazing event. We look forward to seeing the continued impact of your generosity on the health and well-being of our community.

School Council Meeting | Trustee Charlene May

Thank you to Trustee Charlene May for attending our School Council Meeting on February 10, 2025. Our Council members asked many thoughtful questions with respect to public education. Trustee May provided information regarding Current Advocacy Priorities and reminded us of the importance of community involvement in public education.

School Development Plan Connection – Reading Fluency

Our current School Development Plan is focused on improving foundational skills in literacy in math. For literacy we are placing emphasis on reading fluency. If you are wondering what this is take a few minutes to read this short article: Reading 101 for Parents: Fluency. Furthermore, you can read about how you can support improving reading fluency at home by reading this article: Target the Problem: Fluency

Professional Learning at our school this year has supported teachers in building their practice to include strategies to target improving reading fluency as a part of their literacy program. Additionally, we have a core group of volunteers who come in regularly to implement a program called Precision Reading for those students who benefit from extra support to improve their reading fluency. The Precision Reading program is a structured literacy initiative designed to improve reading fluency, comprehension, and overall literacy skills. It focuses on helping students develop skills in areas like decoding, word recognition, and understanding text at various levels with a particular focus on automaticity or fluency. This encourages the development of fluent reading by practicing reading with expression, accuracy, and appropriate speed. Precision Reading is used in as part of a balanced literacy approach, where students practice skills to help boost their overall reading proficiency.

You can find our School Development Plan on the Our School section of our website. You can learn more about and have input on our school development planning by attending School Council meetings.
