Non-Instruction Day – No School for Students

Reminder | Mayors Annual Christmas Food Drive

The Student Leadership Club and the grade 5/6 classes are encouraging HMS families to donate to the Mayor’s Annual Christmas Food Drive. Please consider donating non-perishable food items to help those in need this holiday season. As a special twist, our Grade 5/6 classes are using the donated cans in a fun and creative STEAM challenge. They will be designing and building unique structures using the cans, combining science, technology, engineering, art, and math in an exciting way. Donations can be dropped off in the in the school lobby – let's work together to make a difference! Thank you for your support!

Student Leadership Club | Spirit Days

There are only a few more School Spirit Days left! You can check out all the fun we’ve been having by visiting our Instagram page @haultainmemorial.

Here are the last two Spirit Days for your reference:

Anything but a Backpack Day – December 18. Here’s how you can participate:

  • Leave your backpack at home and bring a different way to carry your stuff.
  • Be sure to bring all the materials you need for class (notebooks, pencils, etc.).
  • Keep it fun and creative—try a unique alternative to the usual backpack!

PJ and Board Game Day – December 20. Here’s how you can participate:

  • Wear your favorite PJs—anything comfy and cozy is fair game!
  • Bring a board game to school that you can play with your friends during breaks or free time.
  • Please remember that your game should be school-friendly and appropriate for all ages.
  • Be ready to play, have fun, and enjoy a laid-back day with friends!

Safety Precautions at Haultain Memorial School

The safety of all students and staff of Haultain Memorial School is of great importance. To that end, we have been working to establish appropriate safety measures for the various situations that may occur and affect our staff and students.

Fire drills are a long-standing expectation of everyone who congregates in a setting such as a school. We are required to have a minimum of six fire drills each school year. Our students and staff treat each drill as though it was the real thing, and we are very proud of their performance during those drills. Teachers keep class lists with them during all drills and attendance is always taken. Parents or other visitors are expected to evacuate the building when the fire alarm is sounded.

It is a reflection of the changes in our society that we must add variations to our safety drills. We practiced a drill known as a “lockdown” on December 5, 2024. The teachers instructed students regarding their role during the drill. They did a very good job of following the expectations during the drill. There will be one more drill in the spring.

As we continue to refine our school safety procedures, other safety precautions we now have in place include:

  • Locking All Doors
  • Walkie-Talkies – have been purchased for communication when children are out in the school field
  • A Fan Out Procedure – has been established to ensure clear and swift communication with parents in the event of an emergency.
  • Visitors – are expected to register at the office
  • Volunteers – must complete a security clearance and wear nametags at all times
  • Substitute Teachers – are provided with emergency information upon entering the school.

Teachers are trained in first aid and have thoroughly reviewed emergency plans with the children. We appreciate your support in these very important matters.

Kindergarten Registration 2025-26

Kindergarten registration for the 2025-26 school year will begin on Monday Jan. 13, 2025. Children can be registered for kindergarten if they turn five years old on or before Dec. 31 of the school year they will be in kindergarten.

For example, when registering for the 2025-26 school year, the child must turn five on or before Dec. 31, 2025.

Families can find information on kindergarten registration by reading the Get Ready. Get Set. Kindergarten! news story on our website.
