Principal Update
We hope you all enjoyed a wonderful summer filled with fun and relaxation! As we gear up for an exciting new school year, we want to extend a heartfelt welcome back to all our students and families.
Our staff have been prepping for what will be another amazing opening to the school year. We are looking forward to seeing our students and hearing all the exciting summer news.
Speaking of exciting summer news, you likely have already seen the amazing transformation of our playground. Thanks to the tireless efforts of our Playground Committee, School Council, Parent Society and countless community volunteers, we now have a shiny new play structure in our schoolyard. The fence is still up while they make the final touches, including installation of the rubber surfacing. Soon, the fence will come down and everyone will be able to start having fun on this spectacular playground. Stay tuned for information about plans for a community grand opening celebration on Saturday, September 21, 2024.
Thanks for taking a few moments each week to check out the news in our HMS Family Update. It is our intent to publish weekly communication here. We’ll relay important dates you need to know about and key news items. Teachers will also be sending regular updates to families with information pertaining to their classes.
We’re excited to see all your smiling faces back in school and look forward to a year full of joy and achievement.
Sincerely,
Melanie Young
Principal
First Day Information
Next week you will receive an email from your child’s teacher, welcoming your child to their classroom and explaining where students are to meet on the first day. If you have not received an email from your child’s teacher by 3:00 PM on Tuesday, August 27, please contact the school. For students who are unsure where to go on the first day, they can ask for help from anyone wearing a bright safety vest and we will support them. You can see more information on our Back to School page.

Kindergarten Kiss ‘N Cry
Tuesday, September 3, 2024, is the first regular day for kindergarten students. All students will come from 8:20 – 11:10 AM.
We know that handing your precious little ones over to the care of their teacher can be emotional for some kindergarten parents. We also know that for those who are new to the school it is nice to meet the parents of their children’s classmates. Our wonderful School Council will be hosting a Kiss ‘N Cry gathering on Tuesday, September 3 right after the bell at the picnic tables beside the new playground. We hope to see you there!
Fees
Once school fees have been uploaded by the CBE, they will appear on your myCBE Account. Generally, these fees are uploaded in late September or early October. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school office.
Supplies
Students will need to bring a pair of indoor shoes, a nut free snack and a backpack to school. Students who are part of the lunch program will also need to bring a healthy lunch. All other consumable supplies (pencils, workbooks, crayons, etc.) are supplied by the school.
Lunchroom
All students may stay at school over the lunch break to eat their lunch and have an active living break. Once the system has been updated, you will be able to register and pay for the lunchroom program via your myCBE Account.
Please note, we are operating under the assumption that all students will be staying for lunch. If your child will be going home for lunch, please let the school know so we do not include them on our lunchroom attendance lists.
Our school is supported by Brown Bagging for Calgary Kids. This amazing program provides school lunches Monday through Thursday to students who need it. If your child was receiving lunch last year, they will automatically be included in the program starting the first day of school. If this is something that would benefit your family, please call the office to request to be included.
