Haultain Memorial School will be continuing our Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) Club. This will be our third year offering a GSA at HMS, and we are pleased to continue this important tradition of supporting student voice, belonging, and inclusion.
We know families may have questions, so we’ve included a short Q & A below to provide more information.
Q: What is a GSA?
A: Gay-Straight Alliances (GSAs) are student clubs made up of students with diverse sexual orientations and/or gender identities, as well as allies (for example, cisgender and heterosexual students). GSAs are supported by teacher advisors and are student-led.
Q: What is the purpose of a GSA?
A: The purpose of a GSA is to provide a safe, welcoming space where students can connect, build relationships, and feel a sense of belonging. These clubs also help foster respect, understanding, and kindness within the school community.
Q: Who is the club for?
A: The GSA is open to all students. Participation is voluntary and focused on inclusion, respect, and community building.
Q: What happens during GSA meetings?
A: Meetings focus on creating a positive group culture, building connections, discussing ways to strengthen belonging at school, and planning activities that support a welcoming environment for everyone.
We look forward to continuing to share updates about the GSA in upcoming school communications and at School Council meetings. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Thank you for your continued partnership as we work together to ensure every student feels safe, valued, and connected at HMS.
